Thornton Active Adult Center

The Thornton Active Adult Center is a new senior focused center that provides both recreation and social activities for the City's senior population. A large dividable event space is used daily for the senior lunch program followed by bingo! The event space is supported with a full commercial kitchen. Other elements include a senior lounge divided by a double sided fireplace with an active and quiet side. A fitness room with senior appropriate equipment, and a multifunction dividable aerobics room provide the recreation programming. A pottery room, classroom, teaching kitchen, provide the educational programming. There are also two massage rooms for wellness use. The staff are all housed within the administration area.

As project manager, I was instrumental in gathering public input for the freasibilyty phase. At the schematic design phase, I developed the initial building footprint and it's relation to a busy intersection at the corner of a large city park . The event space is adjacent to an outdoor gathering area screened from the noise of the street, and with optimal mountain views to the west.
