The Hedrick House is a 1962 Mid-Century modern vacation home designed for the Hedrick family by renowned Texas architect O'Neil Ford. The City of Lewisville acquired the home and has been using it as a rental event space for years. Ford was known for bringing regional craftsmanship into his modernists designs. The project sought to bring back some of the hand carved detail and charm of the orininal home that was lost in an unsympathetic remodel in the early 2000s. Intricate wood "carved" wood doors and columns were replicated from historic photos. Movable wood screens that were also part of the original design were used to close off the catering serving area from the main event room.
In addition to historic elements, the City required the house to be brought up to current code for an assembly occupancy. This required the careful integration of a fire alarm and sprinkler system.
With my project management responsibility, I carefully identified renovation scope costs for inclusion in the City's tight renovation budget. I was also intimately involved in design decisions on how the historic elements could be brought back into the house.
