The Molkery is a historic structure from the late 1800's built as a treatment center for tuberculosis. Throughout the years the Molkery became the local community center for the Montclair neighborhood. As a boarded up facility, the primary goal was to restore the historic appearance and repurpose the facility as an office for Hands on Denver on the upper level, and a community rental space on the main level. Extensive research was done to be as accurate as possible for any new structures. A cupola that was part of the original building was recreated from photographic images and holes on the roof decking that determined previous column locations.
I served as project architect / designer researching many of the design interventions. Also utilized the Existing Buildings Code to help minimize extensive code alterations.
